Working
for Bristol City
Council, CNR has undertaken an evaluation of the SEBDF. The fund
is an action of the development programme for the social economy
sector within the City and was established to promote the growth of
social enterprises by improving support at critical growth stages,
leading to the strengthening and development of the social economy
in Bristol. Grants of up to £15,000 were available to enable
organisations to contract expert support to undertake specific
activities allied to their development as social enterprises. The
fund was administered by
The Quartet Community Foundation (formerly the Greater Bristol
Foundation)Our work involved three data gathering stages, culminating in the selection of three organisations that were studied in depth to generate detailed case studies that illustrate the key points of the fund. An analysis of the data, combined with an understanding of the development of social enterprise business support, generated a set of recommendations for the future operation of the fund, good practice guides, and ideas for obtaining additional financial support from third parties.
