Grid computing technologies offer a range of benefits to UK plc. The more efficient use of processor power will enable organisations to obtain a better return on their investment in ICT, to develop new and innovative products and services, to increase speed of delivery and reduce time to market. Grid technologies offer the prospect of 'utility computing' - having computer applications and processor power available when required, just like electricity.
However, like all new technologies, it takes time to get businesses to adopt new innovations. To encourage business to take up grid based applications and services and to improve knowledge about such products among business advisers, CNR has established and manages 'gridUK', a DTI sponsored knowledge transfer network. The project is a collaboration between CNR and a range of industry partners and works closely with another grid related KTN to produce a web-portal at www.gridcomputingnow.org
gridUK is establishing relations with a wide range of partners in the public and private sectors to develop channels through which businesses and business advisers can be informed about the benefits of grid technologies and their resulting applications and products.
