The
Cox Review was commissioned alongside the 2005 Budget Statement to
address a question vital to the UK’s long-term economic success – namely
how to exploit the nation’s creative skills more fully. In particular
its aims were:
- To review evidence that SMEs are making little use of the creative industries sector’s capabilities
- In which sectors, where in the supply chain, and in which aspects of business, is there most potential for creative industries to influence performance
- What can be done to address the gap
- What role is there, if any, for Government
CNR was commissioned to help the review gather information from
business support intermediaries on these key questions – culminating in
a workshop to review and prioritise findings. Following this work, we
undertook a more comprehensive mapping of their creative support
programmes across the activities of all nine Regional Development
Agencies. This work included the development of a generic customer
journey model and a unique evaluation framework to aid the establishment
of good practice. These methodologies are now being taken forward as
part of the implementation of the Design for Business Programme.
