The Social Enterprise Unit of the Small Business Service had a commitment to develop and pilot training materials to improve awareness and understanding of business skills needed by non-business members of Social Enterprise boards and management committees of voluntary organisations. CNR were appointed to undertake an evaluation of the programme with the aim of aiding:- Design of the programme to meet the needs of the target group
- Construction of materials in a way relevant to those needs (ie, what was actually required)
- Delivery in a way likely to make a positive impact
- Identification of whether there was further potential for the future
CNR's approach as evaluators on this
assignment meant we worked work as an integral part of the project
and we ensured complete transparency of the evaluation process and
evaluation framework. A special tailored version of our programme
evaluation framework was developed and as part of the early
programme planning this evaluation framework was shared with
programme managers to ensure transparency on commencement.
Evaluation processes included a review of quantitative performance
data as well as collection of softer (qualitative) information
obtained from:
- Observation of delivery
- Sample survey of participants after delivery
- Sample survey of participants two months after delivery
